How To Choose A Builder

Before hiring any builder for your building project, we recommend you follow these tips on how to choose a builder.

Get More Than One Quote

Get quotes from at least three to four builders. This will ensure you are getting a competitive quote. Remember choosing the cheapest is not always the best choice.

Ask For Fixed Quotes Not Estimates

Estimates are fine in the initial stages of planning, but ensure you have a fixed quote before you sign a contract and work begins.

Make Sure Your Quote Has A Breakdown Of Costs

Make sure your fixed quotation covers all the work needed. Specific details such as materials, site clearance and time scales should be included.

Ask For References

We recommend asking for a minimum of three references of previous customers they have carried out work for. A good builder should be able to give you references you can call. They should also be able to arrange a site visit where you can see recently completed work.

Before selecting a builder we recommend you read our Free Building Guide. The guide provides more advice on how to choose a builder, including a checklist of what a quote should contain and questions to ask references before you instruct them.
